Bylt Performance GR A90 Supra Makes an Impressive Debut at Gridlife Midwest Festival
The Bylt Performance GR A90 Supra made its much-anticipated debut at its first-ever Gridlife event, the Midwest Festival at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan. Despite being a brand-new build with zero prior track testing, the Supra impressed immediately, finishing as the 6th fastest car in its very first session.
Driven by Luca Barberis, the team entered the event with modest expectations, aiming more for data collection and car development than podium finishes. However, the car’s raw potential quickly became evident, hinting at a competitive future in Time Attack — a discipline where our previous platform, the Evo 9, set multiple track records.
Unfortunately, we were unable to compete in the finals due to limitations with the stock transmission, which couldn’t fully handle the power output. To mitigate this moving forward, we've since partnered with Pure Drivetrain Solutions, upgrading to their Stage 2 transmission and torque converter, allowing us to better put down power reliably in future events.
Even with limited power, the Supra handled beautifully, thanks to Fortune Auto’s Pro 2-Way coilovers, a first for the A90 Supra platform. These coilovers dramatically enhanced the vehicle’s cornering capability and composure on track, giving Luca the confidence to push in suboptimal conditions.
Although we narrowly missed qualifying for the Top 5 Shootout, just tenths of a second off the car remained consistent, even as track conditions worsened. While many competitors saw lap times fall off by a full second or more during the weekend’s hottest sessions, we were able to match our best times, demonstrating the car's impressive consistency and potential.
Luca had nothing but positive feedback, praising the Supra’s balance and performance under pressure. We're now looking ahead to our next challenge at Mid-Ohio, eager to unleash more of the Supra's capabilities with our latest drivetrain upgrades.
Stay tuned — the best is yet to come!
